Main Features

Dressforms have many uses:

  • Allow you to pin-up clothes to see how they look and hang before sewing-up
  • Check and modify your pattern before cutting the cloth, saving time and materials
  • Set sleeves, collars and pockets accurately
  • Create level hemlines without an assistant; fit linings and zips accurately with the garment held in its natural 3-dimensional shape
  • Shape and hang garments on the form overnight for accurate hemlines
  • Judge the overall impact of patterned fabrics
  • Finalise trim, belt and buttonhole placements

Main Features
If you have made widening adjustments to the model, attach a strip of widening adjustments to the model, attach a strip of wide tape or ribbon to fill in the open areas.

For easy positioning, apply basting tape along the lengthwise edges of the tape.

A pencil or stitching line can be added to centre of the tape to identify reference points such as centre front, centre back and side seams.

Main Features
For figure characteristics that may require extra padding, for example, curved back, high hip protruding abdomen, fill in the area with polyester batting held in place with a covering of thin fabric. The covering may be applied to the dressform using basting tape or pins.

This technique is also useful if you need to achieve a dimension that is beyond the maximum size of the dressform.
